Extract audio from a Zoom recording.

Turn a Zoom meeting recording into an audio file for transcription, a podcast feed or listening on the go. Your meeting stays on your device, which matters when the conversation was private.

Free for files up to 100 MB. No sign-up, no watermark. Pro removes the limit for $4.99 a month.

Runs in your browser. Your file is processed on this device and never uploaded.

How to get audio from a Zoom recording

  1. Find the recording.

Local Zoom recordings are saved in Documents, then Zoom, in a folder named after the meeting date. The video file is called zoom_0.mp4.

  2. Drop it in and choose a format.

MP3 is ready for most transcription services and podcast hosts. Choose WAV if a transcription tool asks for uncompressed audio.

  3. Download the audio.

A one-hour meeting becomes an MP3 of about 85 MB, small enough to upload to most transcription tools.

What Zoom saves when you record a meeting

A local recording creates a few files in the same folder: zoom_0.mp4 with video and sound, audio_only.m4a with just the sound, and chat.txt with the meeting chat. If audio_only.m4a is there, you may already have what you need.

Convert the MP4 when the audio-only file is missing, when you need MP3 or WAV instead of M4A, or when you downloaded a cloud recording that came as a single MP4. Because ConvertRight works in your browser, client calls and internal meetings never pass through someone else's server.

Questions about this tool.

Where are Zoom recordings saved?

Local recordings go to Documents/Zoom on Mac and Windows, in a folder per meeting. Cloud recordings are downloaded from your Zoom account's Recordings page.

Which format is best for transcription?

MP3 works with nearly every transcription service. Use WAV if a tool asks for uncompressed audio or gives better accuracy with it.

Can I separate each speaker's audio?

Not with this tool; it keeps the mixed meeting audio. Zoom can record separate audio files per participant if you enable that in its recording settings.

Is it safe for confidential meetings?

The recording is converted in your browser and isn't uploaded to ConvertRight or anyone else.

Prefer a desktop app?

The Mac and Windows app works offline and saves results beside your original. It includes 5 free conversions, then costs $1 once per computer, separate from Pro.
