Loom to MP4: every way to save a Loom video.
What do you want to do?
Runs in your browser. Your file is processed on this device and never uploaded.
Free for files up to 100 MB. No sign-up, no watermark. Pro removes the limit for $4.99 a month.
Loom already saves videos as MP4, so you don't need a converter if Loom shows you a Download option. The catch is that many people never see it: downloads depend on the Loom plan, your role, and whether the owner allowed them. Below are all the ways to get a Loom video as an MP4. Once you have the file, use the tool above to compress it or save the audio, right in your browser.
How to download a Loom video as MP4
Use Loom's Download button if you have it.
Open the video from your Loom Library, click the three-dot menu above the video and choose Download. The file saves as an MP4 at the original quality. If you see a "Polishing pixels" message, wait a few minutes, refresh and try again.
No button? Ask the owner to allow downloads.
On a Loom someone sent you, downloading depends on their settings. The owner opens the video, goes to Settings and switches on Allow downloads, then you refresh the page. You must be signed in to Loom on a paid plan to see it. The owner can also just send you the MP4.
For a public link, use yt-dlp.
The free open source tool yt-dlp can save a public loom.com/share link. Run yt-dlp -F followed by the link to list the formats, then yt-dlp -f http-transcoded followed by the link to get the MP4. Without -f http-transcoded you may get a WebM file, which you can turn into MP4 with the WebM to MP4 tool.
Last resort: screen record it.
If the video isn't public and the owner can't send a copy, record your screen while it plays. On Mac press Shift + Command + 5, on Windows 11 use the Snipping Tool's record option, or use OBS Studio on any system. A Mac recording saves as .mov, which the MOV to MP4 tool converts.
Compress it or keep only the audio.
Loom recordings get large fast. Drop the MP4 into the tool at the top of this page to shrink it to an exact size for email, Slack or an upload form, or to save the sound as MP3 for listening or transcription. Nothing is uploaded.
Why there's no Download button on a Loom
Loom only offers downloads on paid plans, and only to certain roles. On the free Starter plan, nobody gets a Download button, and viewers who aren't signed in never see one, whatever the owner's settings are.
When someone else shares a Loom with you, it also depends on them. The owner needs a paid creator or admin role and has to turn on Allow downloads for that video, or for all their videos by default.
Two kinds of video can't be downloaded even on a paid plan: videos that use Variables (personalized videos), and meeting recordings, which only the meeting organizer can download. And the MP4 contains only the video and audio. Chapters, CTA buttons and other features of the Loom player don't carry over.
| Loom plan | Who can download |
|---|---|
| Starter (free) | No one |
| Business and Business+ AI | Admins and creators |
| Education | Admins only |
| Enterprise | Admins and members |

Questions about this tool.
What format are Loom videos downloaded in?
MP4. Loom's own Download button always gives you an MP4 file, so there's no separate conversion step.
Can I download a Loom video on the free plan?
No. On the Starter plan the Download option isn't available. Ask the owner to send you the file, or use yt-dlp if the link is public.
Can I download a Loom video without an account?
Not through Loom, because signed-out viewers never see the Download button. For a public link, yt-dlp works without a Loom account.
Can I download a private Loom video?
No. If a video needs sign-in or a password, only people with access can get it, and only if the owner allows downloads. Ask the owner for a copy.
Does ConvertRight download Loom videos from a link?
No. ConvertRight works on files you already have. Once you've saved the MP4, it can compress it, convert a WebM or MOV to MP4, or extract the audio, all in your browser.
Why is my downloaded Loom video stretched?
The MP4 keeps the shape of the original screen recording, while Loom's player shows it in 16:9. Try another player, and record at a 16:9 screen resolution in future.
How do I make a Loom MP4 small enough to email?
Drop it into the tool above, choose Compress video and pick a size such as 10 or 25 MB. The file is processed on your device and never uploaded.
Prefer a desktop app?
The Mac and Windows app works offline and saves results beside your original. It includes 5 free conversions, and Pro unlocks it on up to 3 computers at no extra cost.
